The Let's Play is just getting started, and no one has died or killed yet. What's your opinion on each of the characters? Anyone else picking up on some similarities between them and the previous game's characters?

Hinata - a lot more pessimistic than Naegi, but I'm enjoying him for it. I'm curious about what his role later on will be.
Komaeda - Actually a favorite of mine so far. I like the way his optimism bounces off of Hinata's pessimism, and I'm hoping the game won't kill him off right away, if at all.
Souda - He seems like a cool guy. I'm getting some laughs out of the crush it looks like he has on Sonia. It almost feels like he's being set up to be a first murderer or victim, but I'm not 100% sure if they'll actually follow through with that
Gundam - WOW I LOVE HIM A LOT I JUST FIND HIM REALLY HILARIOUS AND I HOPE HE SURVIVES THE ENTIRE GAME BECAUSE HAMSTERS
Tsukimi - I can relate a bit to her shyness! I'm curious if we'll get to see any of her nurse skills in action, considering that if she has the right materials, she could potentially save a life (or who knows, maybe she'd know exactly how to kill someone quietly and discreetly if she snapped)
Ibuki - I love her design not to mention that I like her talent. I'm hoping she'll stick around a little while since she's a nice, upbeat character.
Nidai - I realised I love him when he proclaimed that bullets cannot pierce spirit
Kuzuryuu - Wow I really wanna pinch his cheeks and call him a cutie but he'd probably murder me if I did
Koizumi - She seems nice enough! Nothing about her seems to really stand out to me so far though.
Nanami - I want her hoodie. Not to mention I enjoy her quirk where she just seems completely in her own little world, absorbed in her own thoughts and games
Pekoyama - To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what makes me like this character so much, I just really love her. Maybe it's her expressions.
Teruteru - I'm not sure if I should laugh at him or be extremely creeped out.
Sonia - Oh geez I'm a sucker for princess characters because part of me is still that little girl who wants to be a Disney princess and Sonia basically embodies a lot of that idea I love her a lot.
Akane - She seems like a nice enough girl, I do appreciate her love for food. Kind of reminding me of Asahina with both that and her color scheme
Hiyoko - I love how I thought she was going to be moebait but her personality is just so different to that idea. The contrast is great.
Togami - WHY ARE YOU FAT NOW??? ALSO YOU SEEM A LOT NICER THIS TIME, YOU'RE MUCH CLOSER TO YOUR END-OF-DR SELF

I still don't remember most of their names.XD I'm going to use your list to help me with that.XD
Hinata(Protagonist)-He's kind of pessimistic, and I kind of like that. It makes sense, when you consider the circumstances. Everyone else was initially a little TOO laid-back for the situation. I can't help thinking that he is Super High School Level Despair. A mastermind whose forgotten he's a mastermind? It'd be funny if Usami kidnapped him and erased his memories to try and save him from becoming like Junko.
Komaeda(Good Luck)-Bakura! That's pretty much my first impression of him. Seems okay, but you never know.
Souda(Mechanic)-Love him! Like with Leon in the first game, not entirely sure why. He kind of looks like Leon and kind of acts like Sayaka, so he might be in trouble. But then again, those things might be what save him from being a victim or murderer early on, since that would be repetitive. I kind of want to hug him, because he's so freaked out, and he better not be a bad guy!
Gundam(Animal Breeder)-The blushing sprite in the last update was the cutest thing. Beyond that, no real thoughts.
Tsukimi(Nurse)-Klutz or homicidal maniac? I think it could go either way.
Ibuki(Music Club Member)-I like her look and some of her poses. I could see her as a victim, for some reason.
Nidai(Coach)-Kind of see him lasting a while, because like Sakura in the first game, he seems like he'd be hard to kill. He comes on strong, but no real opinion. I'm not as drawn to him as others seem to be.
Kuzuryuu(Gangster)-No real thoughts at all, but I somehow doubt he's a bad guy.
Koizumi(Photographer)-I kind of see her being one of the killers... She is a harsh person, who doesn't seem to take any nonsense, and she doesn't seem like too much of a team player.
Nanami(Gamer)-Seems unassuming, which means she likely isn't. No real opinion beyond that.
Pekoyama(Swordswoman)-Like her well enough so far, but need to see more of her.
Teruteru(Chef)-Creeps me out. Seen plenty of perverts in anime, but the way he was basically trying to assault Sonia by taking advantage of her naivety really rubbed me the wrong way.
Sonia(Princess)-I think she is either more skilled than she realizes or is well-aware of her skill and backs down because she knows the group doesn't need strife. Either way, she better back up off of Souda.: P I get the feeling she's going to break his heart...
Akane(Gymnast)-No real opinion of her. She seems too lazy to become a killer.
Hiyoko(Cultural Dancer)-I hate this kid. She's cruel. I hope she gets killed off soon.
Togami(Heir)-Like him a lot more this time around. He seems a lot more willing to work with everyone. Wonder what's going on with him.

Also, forgot to say this, but don't all the characters have strong similarities to ones from the previous game?

I can't give my first impressions seeing that I'm already spoiled for the game... but I can tell you that some speculations here are uh, quite true but I'm not going to say which ones are those.
As for how all SDR2 characters are similar to DR's, I disagree. Maybe some are similar such as Komaeda and Hinata/Naegi, Nanami and Peko/Kirigiri, Akane/Aoi and Sakura but I think that characters like Souda,Teruteru and Mahiru are quite different of the DR characters...

Yeah, I am getting some Leon vibes from Souda. Though I do feel like on the whole while there are some things that remind me of certain characters from DR, I feel like so far most of these characters are quite individual. The similarities most of the time seem more like little references or shout outs than actually having the same character all over again.
And yeahhh Teruteru's a creep. I have a hard time reacting to his lines because I feel like the game is trying to set it up as a joke but it's just really uncomfortable at the same time to know he's trying to take advantage of a girl who doesn't know any better...

SHSL Analysis! DR1 spoilers and wild speculations ahoy! (Written at SDR2 Update #16) Before the LP even began, senpai a friend of mine showed me the character designs in a Japanese article. I wasn't all too impressed by the designs since I was really attached to the DR1 crew, but one thing I noticed was that the SDR2 gang looked like someone tossed DR1 into a blender or remixed/tweaked them. After a few LP updates, I could tell that Spike was trying to make you keep thinking back to what happened in DR1 (or is that just me?). (Side note: SDR2 does begin with the full 16 students, while DR1 began with 15 students known. IDK where else to put this but keep that in mind.) Naegi Makoto vs. Hinata HajimeI like to call them the ahomies since they both have ahoges in common. These gentlemen are our protagonists respectively, but Naegi is optimistic and friendly while Hinata is pessimistic (more negative than anything) and cautious. Naegi is more focused on getting everyone to work together and Hinata's just in his room screaming about how unreal everything is. I personally enjoyed Naegi for his plainness in a cast of colorful characters. Hinata, on the other hand, does have a more believable reaction to the situation.  Kirigiri Kyouko vs. Hinata Hajime"Who am I?" Both Kirigiri and Hinata do not remember their talents at the beginning of the game. We know that everyone in DR1 had their memories wiped clean so we can guess that the same happened in SDR2, but to what extent we can't be sure yet. Kirigiri was able to keep her cool and hide the fact that she didn't remember her talent for a while, but for Hinata, the news spilled pretty quickly. Spike's really trying to make you make connections and comparisons here.  Kirigiri Kyouko + Naegi Makoto vs. Komaeda NagitoHolla holla, my boy Komaeda be wanting some of that fine booty. That aside, Komaeda seems to be a mix of Kirigiri and Naegi; Kirigiri for the mysteriousness and Naegi for the shared SHSL Luck title. Komaeda has been dropping various hints that he knows more than the others with trailing thoughts, yet at the same time he does want to go with Usami's plan and make friends with everyone. If Naegi's optimism and friendliness leveled up he'd act like Komaeda too.  Leon Kuwata vs. Teruteru Hanamura Well, aside from the fact that both of them are womanizers. Teruteru is definitely more forward and aggressive (I think his voice actor is the same one as the Persona 3 MC in Japanese? When you think about it that's pretty hilarious, seeing as to how P3 MC could potentially be a pimp) which may be a bit creepy for some people. Personally, I find it hilarious, just as much as Leon's reason for wanting to be SHSL singer just so he can be popular with the ladies~ Unfortunately, both of their SHSL talents lend themselves to be very disposable (then again, Aoi the SHSL Swimmer survived in DR1).  Mondo Oowada vs. Kuzuryu FuyuhikoBlushing gangsters are the best. Both are sweethearts. Enough said. [/img] Aoi Asahina vs. Owari Akane[/center] Two tanned athletes with giant chests, Syo would be delighted to meet Owari. I think Aoi also had a huge appetite, so Owari is pretty much Aoi on steroids. I can’t say much about Owari’s personality besides that she’s brash and sometimes rude, pretty careless, and overall just does whatever she wants to do. Aoi was also more prudish when Fukawa was saying a lot of naughty things to her while Owari was going to strip in front of everyone to go swimming at the beach.  Enoshima Junko vs. Saionji HiyokoTWO PSYCHO LADIES I LOVE IT THEY’RE REALLY GREAT I might do the rest of the characters, but yeah my thoughts. I'd also like to toss in somewhere that the SDR2 guys are more interesting appearance-wise while the gals seem to be more fanservice-y. If we got the DR1 girls together with the SDR2 guys, it'd be a really interesting party up in here. |

I think any similarities of DR/SDR2 are there for fans to make connections... and then despair over being mindfucked later. Maybe I can't feel the similarities that much after being spoiled whoops.
There are a lot of Hinata + Komaeda = Naegi comparisons too. Naegi has Komaeda's fashion sense and Hinata's hair. In fact there's even a fancomic where Komaeda was like: hey that's our lovechild! while Hinata and Naegi are like: NO
Chihiro and (Nanami) Chiaki are also similar as programmer and gamer. They even have the same 'chi' kanji in their first names... I'll leave you all to speculate then. Nanami is also the Kirigiri to Hinata's Naegi and she also has a similar hair colour to Kirigiri.
Finally, does anyone notice everyone in SDR2 looks older than the DR cast (except for Hiyoko)?

I agree with most of the comparisons, most of all the Nanami/Kirigiri, if only because I love them both. Really hope Nanami doesn't die, she's my favourite character from DR2.
