I applied to be a tester, but they turned me down. Their reasons for doing so didn't make a lot of sense, and the guy refused to explain them. I just hope they fix some of those more jarring errors. Has anyone else played the translated Demo?

Ah, I wish I have played it, but something about that group's general attitude and some of their translation choices just turn me off from the idea of checking it out.
Strange that they refused to explain why you got turned down, that's really something that you should do when rejecting an application, especially if the person who applied would like to know where they went wrong.

The only thing they would say, is they felt I had taken Oren's translation too much to heart, and someone with my ideas probably wouldn't be a good fit or something. It made no sense. Yes, on the blog I made comments about liking some of Oren's translations better, just like most of the people who posted comments. However, that has nothing to do with being a tester, and my application only pointed out actual game errors. I was pretty offended, especially knowing that most fans and probable most of their testers as well, are people who have read Oren's LP.
Also, I made note of two really big issues with their demo.
First, they mess up how Yamada talks. His habit of saying character's full names, starting with a certain one, ends up being a big, subtle hint in one of the cases. They keep him saying the characters' full names, but do not order it correctly.
The biggest thing, though, involves the murder weapon from the first case. They incorrectly and frequently refer to it as a "cleaver", which is jarring. To make matters worse, one of the very first contradictions you are expected to point out, is Mondo saying the weapon was a knife. You have to say it wasn't-it was a cleaver. While a cleaver is still technically a kind of knife, my issue comes from the fact that this is not actually a contradiction, as the weapon IS a knife, not a cleaver.

Oh man yeah those are some strange mistakes that will end up really jarring especially with Yamada's speech later. And I don't really get the cleaver thing, I mean it's pretty obvious from the art that it was a knife, so that's a really strange thing to do. I can't blame you for being offended, I'm really not sure why they're handling stuff like this.
After all, there's a difference between translating with your own interpretation and just plain ignoring actual problemss that will make things more difficult within the context of the game like those two big issues.

More people should email them about those things, I think.

IDK much about the patch but there's a translation more jarring than the LP? For example, orenronen translated Chihiro's title as SHSL Hacker instead of Programmer. It's a problem since DR0 and If has another SHSL Hacker.
I also have gripes with the gently caress and poo poo but eh, that's all the gripes I have with the LP. The patch sounds really bad, that clearly wasn't a cleaver D:
...I have even more gripes with how Hinata's super informal speech pattern was kind of ignored in the SDR2 LP. The significance is a spoiler, but at least provide the foreshadowing...
Actually can this be a translation issue thread?

I would tell Oren about the Hacker thing, but I don't have an account. Maybe someone who has one on the site where the LP has been hosted can?
I think those words are actually censored by the forum, and I think registered members see the actual word. Took me a while to figure out that that's not what the characters were saying, and I recently read a comment in the DR2 LP thread about how it must look to unregistered members.
If you want to create an actual issue thread for the LPs, it might be better to do so separately, since this thread is specifically about the patch.

Ah yeah, Something Awful has a word filter, so gently caress and poo poo are just there to censor words to unregistered members (it's probably another way for SA to try and get people to register)
If anyone has an account though, it'd definitely be really nice if the Hacker thing could be pointed out to Oren like Souda-kun suggested, I know it isn't a problem at all on it's own but could get really confusing once Zero gets to its Hacker.
And on the note of the actual patch's issues, maybe I'll send them an email too, because it's silly that they seem to be ignoring those problems.

Yeah, and they just told me the main reason they rejected me is over the Yamada thing. I sent them two emails. One pointing it out, and then one reply suggesting that they not change it, because there really wasn't any reason to do so, and it might upset a lot of fans. They claim that this proves I'm unable to look past Oren's translation. It really had nothing to do with Oren, though. If Oren's translation of this is accurate, then of course that's what people are going to prefer.

The problems just keep getting worse...
Doing what their site says, I went through great pains and spent a lot of money importing this game, so I could eventually play the patch. The girl I spoke to about being a tester, who knew I had NO experience with ISO files, promised to help me.
When the game arrived, I followed her instructions, but got an error. I tried five different drives on two different computers, but no luck. She provided no help when I told her this. I tried uploading the file and sending it myself. It seemed to work, until the game froze when I tried to pick anything on the main menu.
When I emailed her, she finally replied. I'd sent her the file, and she confirmed it was messed up, then suggested I ask someone else for help.
I was pretty upset that she just dismissed me so quickly. When I told her I'd already tried and failed asking for help, and I asked if she could send me a copy of her own ISO file, even offering to proove I had purchased the game.
She refuses, claiming it's illegal even though I'd be the only one with access, and I owned the game. She then tells me to search for and download the game illegally. I had searched for it previously, just in case, but had had no luck. Plus, I didn't want to go downloading a file that might not work right or might infect my computer. She just continued being rude, even saying she had a safe link, but would not give it to me.
I'm pretty ticked and really upset.

It's finally out, but there are still so many things that irritate me. Grammar errors, name changes, and so on...

"Super Duper High School..." I'm playing it on an emulator for PC. Well, playing is a bit strong, I'm searching the internet with no success to try to find out how to click on things... I know it's the emulator's equivalent of 'x' but it doesn't work... I've followed all the instructions on the guide from Tumblr as well... looks like no DR for me.
